a poem – by David Dickman

Warm, as she rises
Across the Spring time sea
Slowly first, like whisper songs
Sung from stretches far
Hopeful cumulus forms, billowed white
Move slowly across the sky in scattered patterns
A synchrony of nature, wind upon water
Building through the morning sun still swells respond
Reflecting nature’s existential symphony

Blow on, you wonderous mistress
From land and far off seas
Blow on, you passion siren
Your truth is always free

Hot, as she rises
From a summer heated soil
Strong and free her commanding voice
My sails fill with nature’s humid breath
Followed by the rich bass of the sea swells harmony
Capped by rhythmic tenors of white spray
Though friendly still, to move us searching onward
Welcome she is, as my bow plows through the blue
All canvas flying, her symbiosis grand

Blow on, you wonderous mistress
From land and far off seas
Blow on, you passion siren
Your truth is always free

Cool, as she rises
By land or by sea, through fickle directions south, west or north
Oft hidden in gray stratus blankets and persistent mists
Chilled steady flows, refresh my mindful humility
And move us through our seaward passage with comforted ease
Sweaters warm our core, our thoughts, our grace
She commands the mighty oceans, sometimes softly and sometimes more
Lapidary harmonies in swift waters strewn astern
Where peace and serenity follow in our wake

Blow on, you wonderous mistress
From land and far off sea
Blow on, you passion siren
Your truth is always free

Cold, as she rises
From winter’s cast gray skies
Or northern frontal bristling nights so clear
Cosmic stars brilliant as they waltz above
Below, the sea swept clean by swells darkly deep
Our rig sings strongly at a higher pitch as gusts pronounce
Seas slap my hull and spray the deck
Short the day and long the night
Comfort aligns in my mind’s guise
Fore she breaths the presence of the moment and hope’s promise for tomorrow

Blow on, you wonderous mistress
From land and far off seas
Blow on, you passion siren
Your truth is always free

Looks like the dream is working out! Fair winds, and following seas!
